Arrest Records in Yates County
An arrest in Yates County can create four distinct records. The arresting agency writes an incident or arrest report. The Yates County Jail creates intake and custody entries when the person is booked. The court opens an arraignment record and docket when an accusatory instrument is filed. For a fingerprintable event, identity and arrest data also flow to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, or DCJS. Each source answers a different question.
The Sheriff serves much of rural Yates County, Penn Yan Police handles matters within the village, and New York State Police keeps reports made by troopers. A booking can result from any of those agencies. A person may then be released, transferred, charged differently, or never convicted. The Sheriff's form is the main written path for a YCSO arrest report. It asks for the requester's name, address, home and cell telephone numbers, the record subject's name and date of birth, and a case number or date when known. Record choices include Arrest Report, Domestic Report, MVA Report, General Report, Fire Investigation Report, Computer Aided Dispatch Entries, and Other. An accessible arrest record can identify the event, arresting agency, alleged offense, and destination after arrest. Booking adds a custody layer. Exact disclosure depends on FOIL, sealing rules, the state of an investigation, and privacy or safety concerns. Victim and witness details, medical information, confidential sources, youthful-offender material, and exact identifying data may be withheld or redacted.

Yates County CAD and Arrest Records
A Computer Aided Dispatch entry is not the same document as an arrest report. CAD can reflect a call, dispatch action, time stamp, or unit activity even when no arrest follows. The Sheriff's form lists CAD Entries as its own choice, so ask for the specific record type and give the event date, location, and CR number if known.
The form states that records of calls to the county E911 system, in any form, shall not be released under County Law Section 308(4). That limit makes a request for releasable CAD entries materially different from a request for the audio or content of a 911 call. Describe existing records rather than asking the office to create an explanation.
Note: A dispatch entry can show agency activity, but it does not by itself prove that a person was arrested.
Recent Yates County Bookings
Yates County does not publish a complete daily arrest log or browser-based jail roster in the official sources reviewed. Sheriff and county releases or Penn Yan Police posts may describe selected events, but they are not a full booking ledger. The absence of a name from a release proves little. Call the jail for current custody, then request the relevant booking or arrest record.
The official Yates County Sheriff mobile app advertises inmate information, Most Wanted, sex-offender information, alerts, and crime tips. The app does not replace a signed report request, and an app result should be checked with the jail when current custody matters.
A roster, when current custody information is available, has a narrow time frame. A person can post bail, be released, or be boarded to another facility. Those changes do not erase the arrest report, and a current-custody check does not establish a person's full arrest history.
Yates County Arrest Request Fallbacks
If the Sheriff did not create the sought record, route the request to its actual holder. The general Yates County FOIL center handles county administrative records, while a police or trooper report remains with that agency. Sheriff FOIL requests should receive an acknowledgment within five business days, excluding weekends and holidays. That is not a promise of full production in five days. Timing can cause gaps. A recent booking may not yet appear in WebCrims. A court result may later be sealed. A name search can miss an alias or spelling variation. An arrest is an allegation and enforcement event. A conviction is a court judgment based on a guilty plea or verdict. Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and the certified court disposition is the best source for the final result.
New York CPL 160.50 generally seals records after a case terminates in favor of the accused, subject to statutory exceptions. A missing public entry may therefore reflect lawful sealing rather than proof that no event occurred.
Yates Bookings and State Custody
County custody and state prison are separate. The Yates County Jail holds local pretrial, remand, and qualifying sentenced people.
