Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A query entered into a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the terms and supplies its result. Yates County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other message sent directly to us may be kept long enough to read and answer it. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Standard technical information may be recorded when a page loads. It can include:
- The device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device type
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring website, when supplied
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that can help measure use of the site, including popular pages and where a visit ends. Analytics providers may aggregate this traffic information. A browser can block or remove cookies, though some site features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical and submitted information may be used for the following operational purposes:
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Routing a search to the selected partner service
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Yates County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to official custodians such as the Yates County Sheriff, Yates County Court and Clerk, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and New York State Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports about other people.
Official New York criminal-history dissemination remains controlled by state law, including Executive Law §837, while public agency records are governed in part by the New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6. Those laws concern government records and do not turn this private site into a records custodian.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes displayed on some pages. Information entered there is handled under that company's privacy policy, including its own rules for storage and disclosure. We do not set or control those practices. Review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Yates County government, New York courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's policy applies. Read that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use technology on their own systems to recognize activity across websites and tailor ads. That processing is not performed by our servers.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- A search provider that receives a query
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving ads
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used security measures are applied to information under our control. No online system can be guaranteed secure in every circumstance, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If we learn that such data was submitted, we will take steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the processing at issue. The New York Freedom of Information Law governs records held by state and local agencies, not visitor data held by a private site. Executive Law §837 separately controls DCJS criminal-history functions and does not make this site a state repository. Subject to any law that applies, a visitor may ask to:
- Receive a copy of personal information held about them
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete information where the law permits
- Opt out of certain processing when a legal right applies
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised. A revised policy will be posted here and identified by a new effective date. Visitors should review the current version when they want to understand how information is handled.
